Cost Savers
1 Nix the pricey dinner. Instead, choose a house and meet there for a potluck meal. Or consider hitting your favorite fast-food joint in your fancy duds.
2 Pick up some extra passengers. The best way to keep limo costs down is to share the ride.
3 Shop somewhere besides the mall. Check out local flea markets or your grandma's attic for vintage evening bags and other prom-worthy finds.
4 Snap pics with a digital camera. This way you can share photos with friends via e-mail rather than getting everything developed in triplicate.
5 Go for DIY beauty. Host a 'get ready for prom' party for you and your girls, and make mani/pedis, hair and makeup a group effort.
Money Makers
1 Tell your family friends and neighbors that you’re up for work (babysitting, lawnmowing, carwashing, dogwalking, etc.).
2 Have a yard sale to sell things (clothes, CDs, etc.) you haven’t touched in years. You can also unload some oldies but goodies on eBay.com.
3 Offer up your services to Mom. There's always an attic or garage that needs to be cleaned out.
4 Be a tutor to younger kids. Pass out flyers touting your skills as a math or computer whiz.
5 Ask older folks in your area if they need help running errands or cleaning their houses. Are you a good chef? Try your hand at cooking, too.
