Jordin Sparks, the youngest American Idol winner ever, is supposed to be on vocal rest. That means no singing—or talking!—at our cover shoot so her soulful pipes will be at their strongest when she enters the recording studio the following week to lay down more tracks for her self-titled pop/R&B album. But there are some times when a girl just can’t resist a little conversation. Like when she discovers a perfect prom dress. “Psst!” the 17-year-old whispers to get the attention of her mom, Jodi Sparks, as she steps out of a Santa Monica, CA, studio dressing room in a superglam, black gown fit for a red carpet.
